Having practised, managed and led statutory social work services for a number of years, we believe that social work as a profession has lost its way, lacks confidence, expertise and gravitas and is over-bureaucratised. Nationally, and on a daily basis, local authority child and family practitioners, and most importantly children and families, have to grapple with the consequences of this.

Over the last 6 years we have forensically explored how as leaders we can enable good social work practice to flourish, in spite of the national crisis within the profession.

In 2006 we decided to embark on designing a whole systems change to the way in which statutory child and family social work in England is practiced and managed. In 2008 we introduced Reclaiming Social Work in Hackney - a very different operating system aimed at keeping families safely together. In 2012 the model is well embedded and providing an increasingly strong evidence base for positive outcome for families. Other authorities are now in the process of implementing the model in part or as a whole systems change.

Morning Lane Associates is a social enterprise whose main aim is to change the way we practice and manage child and family social work services through an offer of guidance and support, and direct delivery of highly effective child and family social work practice, management and leadership.
